Hex, RGB and HSL — which do I need?

Hex is the six-character code used almost everywhere in web design and most design tools. RGB is the same colour written as three 0–255 channels, which is what you want when a tool asks for values separately. HSL describes hue, saturation and lightness — far easier to adjust by hand when you want a slightly lighter or less intense version of a colour.

About the dominant colours

The palette below the image groups similar pixels together and shows the most common clusters. It is a good starting point for a colour scheme, though it favours whatever covers the most area — a large plain background will often outrank a more interesting accent.
