BMI Calculator
Calculate BMI from height and weight, with the healthy-range context that goes with it.
For your height, the 18.5–24.9 range works out to 56.7–76.3 kg.
BMI is a rough screening figure, not a diagnosis. It uses only height and weight, so it cannot tell muscle from fat and reads high for athletes and low for older adults who have lost muscle. Talk to a doctor before drawing conclusions from it.
How BMI is calculated
BMI is your weight in kilograms divided by your height in metres squared. In imperial units the same figure comes from weight in pounds divided by height in inches squared, multiplied by 703. Both give the same number — this calculator converts for you.
What the ranges mean
Below 18.5 is classed as underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 as a healthy weight, 25 to 29.9 as overweight, and 30 or above as obese. These are the thresholds used by the WHO and most national health services.
Where BMI falls down
It was designed to describe populations, not individuals. Muscle is denser than fat, so a fit, muscular person can land in the “overweight” band while carrying very little fat. It also says nothing about where body fat sits, which is what actually matters most for health risk — waist measurement is a better guide there. Treat the number as one signal among several.
